You Can't Multi-task God
We lead busy lives. Multi-tasking has become second nature to most of us, we use it at home, in our jobs and often we try to multi-task with God. I realized this was happening to me the other morning, when I was running late and decided I could do my bible study, while driving to work! Yes, people, it is very dangerous to be on the road with me.
Or what about those days, when I read my bible on the treadmill? Isn't that what the little book rack is there for? It's great because it covers up the timer, so I cannot watch my workout drag on.
To put this in perspective; when my friends call and ask to have coffee or chat for a while, I never say "sure, but can we do this while I shower, mow the lawn or drive to Target." Therefore, why is it okay to do this to my Savior, who is so much more than just a friend. In fact, Romans 8:38-39, reminds me that nothing can keep God from me, I am more important to Him than anything else.
"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
When I count up how many hours daily I spend on the computer (darn you farmville!) and watching TV, I find that I "waste" a lot of time. Now, please don't misunderstand me, I am not advocating filling every moment with work, downtime is important. But not at the expense of time with our Heavenly Father.
So for this reason, I am taking a techno timeout. Well sort of, for the next 14 days, I am limiting my computer and TV time. Here is the time I've allotted.
15 minutes computer time in the AM
1 hour 15 minutes computer time in the Evening
TV can wait until the weekend (this is why we have TIVO)
With all my new found time, I should have no excuse for multi-tasking God. Will you join me and find a little extra time to fix your eyes on Jesus?
PS: This song is my motivation
So nice to meet you and I am now following you back! I agree, I can't multi task with scripture time. What a great idea to limit the techno time. I have found that with blogging you could just feast on the fun things endlessly, but to set times is a perfect idea. I am only into blogging three months and I have tried to use the summer hours when I am waiting for the teenagers to come home at night to blog. Now we are going to bed much earlier, so we will see how it works out.
